CHAT Nights are dedicated to informally connecting parents of gifted children, helping them find other parents in similar situations with an ear to listen, experiences to share, and solutions to offer. Each CHAT Night starts with a brief (10-15 minutes) presentation by a facilitator on a designated topic of interest followed by small group discussion. The format of CHAT Nights is intended to be casual, rather than structured. CHAT Nights are free and open to the public. Information on upcoming CHAT Nights, including topics, locations, and availability of child care, can be found in the list of events below and also in MCGT's Outlook newsletter.
The first CHAT night of the school year will take place on October 7, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00pm and is sponsored by the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan MCGT Chapter. The topic will be gifted girls and teens. The evening’s facilitator will be Megan Bearce, MA. MFT, who specializes in working with gifted girls, teens, and women. Mark your calendar and join us for what promises to be a lively discussion of this important topic. The exact South of the River location will be announced at a later date.
The date has been set and a keynote speaker has been selected for the 2010 MCGT Fall Conference, co-sponsored by MCGT and the University of St. Thomas.
This year's MCGT Conference keynote speaker will be Edward R. Amend, Psy.D., a Clinical Psychologist at Amend Psychological Services, P.S.C. In his private practice, Dr. Amend focuses on the social, emotional, and educational needs of gifted and talented youth, adults, and their families. He is co-author of two award-winning books: A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children; and Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Bipolar, OCD, Asperger's, Depression, and Other Disorders.
This year we'll again be at the University of St. Thomas' Minneapolis downtown campus at 11th St. and Lasalle Ave. The date is a little later than usual: Saturday, November 6. There will be breakout sessions on a variety of topics for adults, the usual full day and half-day classes for kids kindergarten through seventh grade, and an array of interesting exhibits and information.
The September/October issue of Outlook will include registration information for the MCGT Conference. That information will also be posted here for downloading after September 1. Everyone who lives or works with gifted kids is welcome!
