Hi there
I recently became a member of MCGT onlne. I indicated that I wanted to join the Prior Lake/Savage chapter since we live in Savage. I am wondering how I get more information on the chapter. What does being a member of this organization mean. I am new to this so any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Stefanie Peterson
Hi, Stefanie.
I am one of the co-presidents of the Prior Lake/Savage chapter. Glad to have you as a member!
The MCGT site itself has some wonderful resources to explore. The chapter itself generally holds 6 meetings each year (in October, November, January, February, March, and April) that focus on various topics. This past school year, we’ve brought in representatives from different levels in the school district (middle school prinicipals and teachers, high school principal, curriculum director and superintendent) to talk about how the needs of gifted kids within the district are being met and to allow an opportunity for parents to ask questions. We also just hosted a social event for all gifted kids in the district and chapter, which was a great success! That was our first attempt at such an event.
MCGT also sponsors CHAT (Connect, Help, Advocate, Talk) nights through different chapters throughout the school year; we are hosting one on Tuesday March 13 at 7pm in the high school auditorium titled, “College Planning for High-Ability Students.” Our last meeting will be on April 24 and will focus on summer opportunities for gifted kids.
Within the Prior Lake/Savage school district, we are known as SPAN (Synergy/SAGE Parent Action Network). Please email me at either priorlakesavage@mcgt.net or span@mchsi.com if you’d like to be added to our email list. I use the list to notify members about upcoming meetings, pass along information about opportunities in the area for gifted kids and their parents, and to communicate about issues specifically related to gifted kids in the school district.
Please let me know if you have more questions/concerns!
