Aug 19, 7pm, Edina Community Center
Please join us Monday, August 19 at 7:00 in the Edina Community Center for the first Quarterly Meeting of the MCGT CHOICES (formerly Homeschool) Chapter!
The MGCT CHOICES (formerly Homeschool) Chapter has changed the rhythm of how we gather. One thing we’ve done is to separate out the monthly board meeting from the gathering of member families. All board meetings, whether virtual or in-person, will still be open to all current and potential members, but people won’t have to sit through the ‘sausage being made’ before the general meeting as administrative work is slogged through.
We will now have quarterly general meetings at the Edina Community Center (February, May, August, and November) with a board meeting followed by a general gathering. The chapter library will be open during the board meeting – with a veteran parent available to answer questions – for those who wish to arrive early to browse or chat. Then the general gathering will open with a brief chapter-wide meeting for announcements and any needed voting before moving on to the night’s topic.
The board will meet online the other eight months of the year. Meetings will be held the third Monday of the month, except February’s meeting will be the Tuesday after the third Monday due to federal holiday.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

More about the CHOICES Chapter:
Understanding giftedness can be tough: it’s not a measurement of achievement and accomplishment, but rather an asynchrony in development that includes advanced cognitive abilities. It also comes with a whole world of different possible quirks, sensitivities, and frustrations of “If you can do (this thing beyond your age level), why can’t you do (that other thing at your own age level)?”
Finding an educational path for your gifted kid is about more than just offering more or higher level curriculum. Whether you’re homeschooling your gifted kid or curating their education through routes like part-time or private school, the MCGT CHOICES Chapter is here for you.
Our families often request more opportunities to just hang out and chat with other parents of gifted kids. They may be homeschoolers looking for information about giftedness, parents of gifted kids looking to homeschool or otherwise bend a traditional school schedule, or veteran families in our community looking for a social visit and a chance to support other parents.
You are invited to an informal Park Chat organized by the MCGT CHOICES Chapter. There’s no agenda, just a time that some of us will be at a Twin Cities park to hang out with old friends and answer questions from new friends. Come to one or all!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
MCGT CHOICES (formerly MCGT Homeschool) is a chapter of the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented that supports families curating their children’s education outside of their neighborhood public school.
