District Level Advocacy Presentation Tuesday 11 February 2014 in Apple Valley

MCGT’s RAVE (Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan) Chapter will be hosting a presentation on “School District Level Advocacy” on Tuesday, 11 February 2014. Joe Wenc will be our guest speaker. Joe has extensive experience in individual advocacy on behalf of his GT kids and on a school district level.

School District Level Advocacy: Lessons Learned

Advocating for changes to gifted services at the school or district level can seem like an uphill battle. Dead ends, brick walls and “the myths of giftedness” are present every step of the way. Each school district also has its own nuances and personalities so there is no silver bullet to advocacy success. But lessons learned from other districts and communities can help to focus your efforts and avoid some pitfalls. Joe Wenc, an MCGT member in Eden Prairie, will share lessons learned from over five years of advocacy in his school district.

Joe Wenc is former President (2009-2012) and current Leadership Team member of the Eden Prairie Chapter of MCGT. He has advocated for district level changes by serving on multiple committees in the Eden Prairie school district (Strategic Planning Committee, GT Services Review Task Force, Full Time GT Program Committee).

The presentation will be held on Tuesday, 11 February 2014 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at

Falcon Ridge Middle School, Room 256
12900 Johnny Cake Ridge Road
Apple Valley, MN 55124

The chapter will not be able to offer child care for this event. To access the building, park in the area behind the building (south side); Room 256 is up one flight of stairs or by elevator. Doors at the front of the building are locked.
