Communication between home, school, and community is vital in helping students succeed in school. Guided discussion groups around topics of interest to families and educators are a great way to build community and increase collaboration between school and home.
Facilitated discussion is a great way to get a variety of stakeholders involved in an ongoing conversation about ways to support high potential learners. Educators, families, and community members can share ideas in a comfortable, accepting environment. Facilitators guide the discussion in such a way that everyone is an expert, and everyone feels valued. This is not meant to be a presentation series—in fact, no presentations should be made at all.
The discussion topics and discussion questions guide the conversation. Some topics will lead to an exchange of ideas for utilizing or sharing community resources. Others will focus on growing community success through student success. All focus on helping children with high potential learn to use and celebrate their strengths in a way that benefits everyone.
